![]() Ableton seems to really want you to be in the box as much as possible no matter how you decide to get audio into the project. I’ve tried PC, Mac, different audio interfaces, dedicated clock hardware (ERM, usamo, etc) and nothing seems to account for Ableton’s unpredictability across all versions. This is the only way Ableton records what you actually played instead of including the latency buffer or compensating it to what it thinks you played.Īside: I’ll never understand why Ableton advertises working with hardware synths so much when their MIDI implementation is so jittery and the clock is so unstable. Also make sure that the track doing the actual recording is set to monitoring OFF. Don’t warp it but just align the start of the clip to where it should have been. My honest advice when using Ableton for something like rock music (where recording organic instruments is involved) is to ALWAYS zoom into the waveform and re-align the beginning to where you need it to be after every single take. I’ve also collaborated and mixed for so many other producers that use Ableton and every single time they send me stems they are out-of-sync. Not even just for guitars but synths and drum machines, too. I have always found myself tinkering with track delays and monitoring in Ableton versus in something like Logic the recording process just works. Yes comp tracks have certainly helped the process but the way Ableton handles latency, monitoring, and delay compensation is baffling compared to other DAWs. I’m an Ableton main and yet I still don’t believe that Ableton is the best environment for recording live instruments. I love Ableton but it frustrates me in this regard. Yes you certainly can record any genre you want, but I personally would not.
